Tips for growing fruit trees in containers

Fruit trees, while wonderful to have, are extremely difficult and time consuming to grow. If you don’t have the outdoor space to accommodate such greenery, but you are dreaming of home grown fruit, try growing them in containers! Here are some great tips from HGTV and Garden on the best and easiest ways to container garden.
It is important to realize that any sort of container can be used to grow fruit trees, but it is important to have adequate holes for drainage, and is about 10 to 16 inches in diameter. It is also important to realize that clay pots may not be the best (they are porous and can dry the soil out) and that plastic may be the best option for you.
It would take much too long to grow a fruit tree from seeds, so it is likely a better (more timely) option to buy a sapling from the local nursery. When potting the sapling, make sure that you use a potting mixture.
After the sapling is potted, it is crucial to stake down the tree as well. This will provide support until the roots become established.
Throughout the life of the tree, regularly add soil with trace minerals to the pot. This will ensure that the tree is healthy and always bearing fruit.
Like all plants, it is important to water often (make sure the soil is moist, not soggy) and place in the sun.
It is important to remember that due to the space in which the tree is growing, they may bear less fruit than trees that are outside. There is an upside though, the fruit is usually borne seasons ahead of the trees outside.
