Tips for planting tulip bulbs

Keep tulips very dry when storing prior to planting. Moisture can create mold and rot easily. If you order your flower bulbs online prior to planting season, it is important to make sure you keep them in a dry location so they don’t mold.
Plant tulip bulbs in late fall or early winter months. Tulips tend to bloom faster than other bulbs, so you need to plant them later in the season so they don’t come up and freeze in winter.
Plant bulbs around 8″ deep into the soil. This will allow them to grow and not bloom too early in the Spring.
Plant the bulbs in the right direction. It’s important to place the tulip bulbs in the ground with the pointed end up so the blooms grow up and out of the soil in springtime.
Plant bulbs in a location that will have plenty of sunlight. Tulips thrive in sunshine and don’t do well in the shade.
After planting your tulip bulbs, make sure to water the area well and cover with a mulch or leaves. This will help nourish and protect the bulbs.
Unlike some bulbs, tulips don’t overcrowd your garden. You’ll find their blooms are singular and beautiful in your garden. Planting a large quantity in a small location is common, and can build a beautiful presentation in your flower garden.
Tulips do well with some traditional or natural fertilizer in the spring. As warm weather begins, you’ll find the green tips of your tulip bulbs peeking out from the soil. They will be some of the first of your flowers to bloom.
