1. If possible, plant your climbing roses early in the season. This will give them the most potential to establish a sturdy root system before the winter frost hits. Technically, they can be planted in early fall, but the root systems won’t be as strong if you do so.
2. When you plant, choose a spot that has plenty of space. Climbing roses tend to overtake the space that they grow in, so it is important that they are away from trees, shrubs, and other plants in your yard or garden.
3. Don’t plant your roses in an area where roses were previously, but if you do, make sure you replace your soil. If roses are planted in an area where old roses were planted they will usually struggle or die, due to the lack of soil nutrients.
4. Climbing roses are often planted as bare root plants. Before you plant roses, or other bare root plants, it soak them in a bucket of lukewarm water for at least an hour. Remove any of the leaves or hips from the stems, and then prune any long or damaged roots.
5. For the climbing structure of roses, you want to make sure that it is really sturdy. Climbing roses can be really heavy so it will take more than just a pole to support them. Wherever you choose to grow them, make sure that the roses have good air ventilation.

11. When the rose shrub is new, it should be left alone for two or three years. After that time, you can begin pruning side shoots down to two or three buds every winter, when the plant is dormant.
12. Climbing roses will bloom on new stems that grow on old wood. After two or three years, It is important to prune your roses so that more will grow. Climbers should be pruned in late winter or early spring so that new vertical flowering stems will produce the maximum amount of flowers they can.
